FEATURED MOTHER OF THE WEEK
Injustice often prevails despite the voices raised against it, often overshadowed by money and influence. Paige Gorton Hall’s ordeal stands as a testament to this truth.
Paige is originally from Rhode Island. She was accepted with a full scholarship by the prestigious School of American Ballet at Lincoln Center at the age of 11. She started off with a promising future in ballet. Now, she is a designer, decorator, photojournalist, as well as a children’s book author. She also served as Chairwoman of the School of American Ballet for 2 years. At the age of 23, Paige crossed paths with her now ex-husband, who was a prominent figure in the field of entertainment.
After a lot of struggle, Paige gave birth to twin daughters. She almost died during childbirth from a condition called Preeclampsia. One of her daughters is currently studying at Parsons school of Design, and her other daughter studied at the London School of Economics.
Paige is a survivor of domestic violence. Her ex-husband was often drunk and always violent. His violence even led to police interventions, resulting in 5 police reports of physical assault, including a spine-chilling instance of strangulation. Her ex-husband maintained a menacing gun collection and often used it to threaten her.
Now, Paige sits on the board of Mommy’s Heart, a 501 (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring abuse survivors have access to justice by providing no cost legal and mental health services to survivors facing lawfare by their abusers in court. Paige left her ex-husband 10 years ago. She lost custody of her daughters due to false allegations and not being afforded a trial to prove her innocence. Her ex-husband obtained an order of protection against her based on fabricated claims to disrupt her access to her children. He coerced his friends to write false affidavits against her. Paige documented corruption in the Family Court, as her ex-husband stated that he knew the Judge.
Paige deserves justice. Her civil and human rights, rights of privacy, and rights to her daughters have been severely violated. Paige was wrongfully subjected to supervised visitations with her children since they were 10. This restricted and closely monitored parental access greatly interfered with her relationship with her children. To help process her emotions and understand everything that was happening, Paige underwent inpatient treatment for PTSD.
Paige’s story underscores a pressing question: are family courts serving families or ruining them? As she continues her fight for justice, we echo the hope that Paige will find the justice she so rightfully deserves.
